Ebola update for business travel customers

The UK and other governments have committed to increasing resources in the West African regions affected by Ebola, resulting in an increase in travellers to these areas.
RSA remains committed to ensuring any customers situated in or intending to travel to or from the affected areas are fully apprised of the situation and have the support to assess the risks involved in any such intended travel.

RSA works with Capita Global Assistance to provide medical assistance to business travel customers.  The Chief Medical Officer of Capita Global Assistance has issued a customer update outlining their current appraisal of the situation. Download the full article here

RSA remains confident in Capita’s ability to transfer non-Ebola patients from these regions.

The affected region does, however, continue to represent a risk to those travelling to the area and all travellers are exposed to the additional risk of delayed evacuation as a result of the suspicion of having contracted the disease.

HOW IS RSA RESPONDING TO THE SITUATION?

RSA’s response to the situation remains unchanged: If it is imperative that customers proceed with travel or work in these territories we will continue to provide full policy coverage subject to the normal terms conditions and exclusions of the policy.

However, please be aware that the implications for those travelling and working in affected areas are significant, not just because of the risk of contracting the disease, but also because the outbreak has the potential to interfere with our normal management and evacuation pathways for non-Ebola related disease and injury.

  • Given the current escalating situation there can be no guarantee that medical evacuation will be possible and for that reason we appreciate that there is a possible reluctance to travel to the area.
  • Effective 01st August 2014 RSA continues to settle any valid claim submitted under an active Cancellation, Curtailment, Rearrangement or Change of Itinerary section of our Business Travel Policies in respect of intended travel to Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
