In 2010, a year of tough economic conditions and large weather losses, RSA once again delivered a strong performance.

• Net written premiums of £7.5bn up 11%
• Combined operating ratio (COR) of 96.4% 
• Operating result of £636m

A HEALTHY SURPLUS

Our capital position remains healthy with significant surpluses on both an economic and regulatory basis. The IGD surplus is £1.5bn, 25% more than required.

MAINTAINING TIGHT GRIP AND STRONG FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

The Group continues to benefit from our high quality, low risk investment strategy and going forward will take action to mitigate the impact on the investment result of lower interest rates. 87% of the total investment portfolio remains invested in high quality fixed income and cash assets.

• A (Excellent) - AM Best.

Although the market remains competitive, 2010 will be a significant year for RSA. With the actions we have taken to re-focus and re-organise the business, we remain committed to supporting the needs of our clients and brokers.
